I Run with WIBO

Hello! I’m Stephen Jackson, CEO of WIBO and beginning in the fall of 2019 and through 2020 I will be running a marathon in every city that WIBO has an affiliate in.  I’m running these marathons to raise awareness for entrepreneurs to take care of themselves and achieve a healthy lifestyle. I will be running marathons in the following cities:

October 26, 2019 – Shreveport La.

November 16, 2019 –  Richmond Va.

January 26, 2020 – Waco Tx.

April 5, 2020 – St. Louis Mo.

November 1, 2020 – New York.

Keep reading to see how you can support me on this journey as I train to run multiple marathons, reduce my body fat%, increase my strength, stamina and become healthier.

Why I'm Running Marathons to get healthy

I learned by 2011 that being successful in business meant nothing if your health was crappy. I had won the Triple Crown of bad health, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and Type II Diabetes. I was taking medication for the HBP and HC and I just didn’t want to take another medication. Coming from a family where heart disease was prevalent on my mother’s side, my future was clear if I didn’t change my lifestyle.

In 2012 I decided to run the NYC Marathon and use marathon training as the catalyst to change my lifestyle.  I know that when I’m physically training for an event I will workout, eat differently and that was what I needed. By 2013 I had reduced my body fat by 11%, got rid of about 65 lbs and I wasn’t taking any medications.  I also started a running club to inspire * support * encourage others to gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Run2LIVE, Inc. was born as a national running club and I was enjoying my new healthy lifestyle.  I was wearing medium shirts, and just having fun with coaching other runners and racing. I was featured in a diabetic magazine about my life shift and everything was going right or maybe not?

By late 2017 I was battling depression and wasn’t running much and when I became CEO of WIBO in May 2018 I stopped running and working out even less as using the excuse of dealing with the new stresses of running WIBO.  Those excuses led to a 50+lb weight increase.  The good news was my blood sugar and cholesterol numbers didn’t get into the danger zones.

Well enough is enough!!! I know what it takes to gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I showed my daughters through my actions and they are active and healthy. The runners I coached are still maintaining healthy lifestyles and are still active. My daughters and my running family have encouraged me to regain my healthy lifestyle and running these marathons is my commitment to return to my healthy self.

Why I'm running Marathons in WIBO Affiliate Cities

I decided to train and run these races to demonstrate that entrepreneurs can find time to live a healthy lifestyle and run a successful business. A business owner shouldn’t have to choose between doing business work and taking care of themselves.  I want to assist our WIBO graduates with creating a lifestyle of just taking 30 minutes a day 3 times a week of getting physical exercise. Combined with eating healthier equals gaining a healthier lifestyle.  I encourage WIBO graduates to join me in their cities and run any of the distances.  Each race I entered with the exception of the NYC Marathon have multiple distances.  More importantly, is just choosing to commit to gaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

After I created Run2LIVE I became aware of wanting to help people who will not choose running as a way to gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I created the Healthy Lifestyle University website as a place where people can real scientific information and encouragement on gaining and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We even created the I’m B.A.D. (I’m Battling Against Diabetes) program to assist diabetics and those who are pre-diabetic with lowering their A1C and blood sugar number.

WIBO is a family that cares and support each other and I believe that part of my job as CEO (Chief Example Officer) is to ensure that my family is healthy and wealthy and leading by example is the way I choose to do it.  You will be able to follow my journey as I posted regularly my miles, my struggles, and my triumphs. I will be transparent about this journey so you can learn what may work and what may not work.  You may not choose to run however, I trust that you do something extra every day to work toward gaining a healthy lifestyle.

Coming to every affiliate city spending time with the graduates, volunteers, and supporters is a great way to inspire * support * encourage others to gain and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Schedule of Cities I'm Running In

I’m starting my marathon journey in our newest affiliate city Shreveport La. with a half marathon on October 26, 2019.  Shreveport 1st cohort will begin on the last week of August and it’s a great way to honor the Grace Hill Center by running a race for them. I will be running in the Brookshire’s + Super 1 Foods Heroes Run a race that supports 1st responders and military heroes.

My next race is in Richmond Va. on November 16, 2019.  This will be the 2nd time that I will have run the Richmond Marathon.  The 1st time was in 2013 two weeks after completing my 1st marathon. Yes, I did my 1st two marathons 14 days apart. Dale Fickett of RVA Works has been doing a great job with the WIBO program and I look forward to having a ball with the Richmond graduates and running in Americas friendliest marathon.

I begin 2020 by heading to Waco Tx. on January 26, 2020, for the Miracle Match Marathon.  This marathon is dubbed Texas toughest marathon with loads of hills.  That has me perplexed because when I was in Waco I only saw flat grounds.  Waco City Center our WIBO affiliate partner did an amazing job of integrating WIBO into the culture of the city.  They created some great partnerships and I already know I will have fun being in Waco and spending time with the graduates.

I get to spend my birthday weekend in St. Louis Mo. on April 5, 2020, running the GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend. This race weekend has something for everyone.  There are kids and seniors races and it looks like a fun weekend of activities.  Alyce Herndon, Executive Director of Grace Hill Women’s Business Center and St. Louis Small Business Hall Of Fame inductee is our WIBO affiliate and I already know that I will have a rocking good birthday weekend.

I am home for my final marathon of 2020 and my 5th NYC Marathon at New York’s 50th TCS NYC Marathon on November 1, 2020.  It’s going to be a monster party on the street as with my Run2LIVE family, WIBO family, 50,000+ running family.  I’m excited just writing about this race. I already know it’s going to be memorable and the perfect way to end a year of racing.
